<a href="#comment-5" rel="nofollow">@Erin</a>
Hey Erin...my son has Alopecia too and I can tell you for him it is gluten. He is a celiac and went gluten free and got his hair back. He was exposed by accident this year and lost it again. We are hopeful that it will generate again.

Hi,
My four-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata a few months ago. The helplessness of "no treatments, no predictability of the course of the disease" had me researching information round the clock. I found numerous connections between Celiac and Alopecia including a recent study finding similarity in the genetic markers for the diseases. I did not wait for blood tests, I immediately embarked on eliminating gluten --for the whole family. It has been 2.1/2 months now and the alopecia is worsening with still no sign of re-growth. Does anyone have experience or insights on how long it could take to see improvement in the alopecia after eliminating gluten? I have to say, gluten free isn't so bad. Expensive, yes. At times inconvenient, yes. But we are all refocused on whole fruits and vegetables which regardless of celiac and alopecia should be the goals of nourishing ourselves. I appreciate anyone's experience...
